Dates can change through NTA notices, so confirm them on jeemain.nta.nic.in before you plan around them.

Exam dates and shift timings

Session 1 is a computer-based test held over six days in January 2027: 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28. Early reports listed 22–24 and 28–30 January, so use the revised dates above and check your admit card for your own date.

For Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) there are two shifts a day:

  • Shift 1: 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon
  • Shift 2: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Your admit card, due on 13 January 2027, will show your exact date, shift, reporting time and centre. The city slip on 30 December only tells you the exam city and is not a substitute for the admit card.

Who can apply

JEE Main is the national entrance test for B.E./B.Tech admission at NITs, IIITs and other participating institutions, and it is also the qualifier for JEE Advanced.

  • Class 12 status: passed in 2025 or 2026, or appearing in 2027.
  • Age limit: none for appearing in the exam, though individual institutes may set their own admission conditions.
  • Papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning).

The notice itself points to the Information Bulletin for full eligibility rules. Read that section rather than relying on last year's conditions, and remember that being eligible to sit the exam is different from being eligible for admission to a particular institute.

Application fee

The fee depends on category, gender, the papers you choose and whether your centre is in India. These are the amounts reported for candidates taking the relevant paper at Indian centres:

CategoryMaleFemale
General₹1,000₹800
General-EWS / OBC-NCL₹900₹800
SC / ST / PwD / PwBD₹500₹500

Applying during 23–26 November adds a ₹500 late fee on top of your category fee. That ₹500 is not the full amount. Extra papers can cost more, so confirm your final figure on the application portal and in the Information Bulletin before paying. Payment is by credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI.

How to apply

  1. Go to jeemain.nta.nic.in and open the Session 1 application link.
  2. Register and log in with your own email address and mobile number.
  3. Fill in your personal, academic and other details.
  4. Upload your documents in the prescribed format.
  5. Pay the fee online.
  6. Review everything, submit, and download the confirmation page.

Save your application number. You will need it later, including for Session 2.

Keep these ready before you start:

DocumentFormat and size
Recent passport-size photographJPG/JPEG, 10–200 KB
SignatureJPG/JPEG, 10–100 KB
Class 10 certificate or marksheetPDF, 50–300 KB
Disability or UDID certificate (if applicable)As per Information Bulletin

You also need to capture a live photograph during the application, so use good lighting and a plain white background. If money is deducted but no confirmation page appears, check the transaction with your bank first, then contact NTA at 011-40759000 or 011-69227700, or write to jeemain@nta.ac.in.

Session 2 (April) at a glance

You can take one session or both. Registering for Session 1 does not apply you for Session 2: you must apply again in January using the same application number and pay that fee.

EventSession 2
Registration5 January – 3 February 2027
Application with ₹500 late fee4–7 February 2027
Correction window8–10 February 2027
Admit card25 March 2027

Reports differ on the Session 2 city slip date (12 March 2027 in one source), so wait for the official notice.

What to do in the next four weeks

The exam is under three months away, so use the application window and the weeks after it well.

  • Apply early. Do not wait for 22 November. Early filing leaves time to fix a rejected upload or a failed payment.
  • Match your records. Your name and date of birth should agree with your Class 10 certificate and ID.
  • Treat the correction window as a safety net. NTA allows changes only in certain fields, so get the details right the first time.
  • Lock a revision timetable. Cover Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics by syllabus, with weaker chapters getting extra slots.
  • Take regular mock tests. After each one, list your mistakes and revise those topics before the next.
  • Practise previous years' papers to get used to question types and to manage the three-hour time limit.
  • Plan your second attempt. If January does not go as hoped, Session 2 in April lets you improve your score.
